Loretta Sanchez and the Green Zone

I like this picture. The buzz-cut on the left is my son, and the pony-tail on the right is me.

More on the brunch fundraiser for Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez that my wife, son and I attended last weekend and of which I talked about here and here. One of the guests there that day asked Congresswoman Sanchez how she thought the war in Iraq was going. The person wanted her opinion because he kept hearing Bush and McCain and Lieberman on TV saying that the surge was working and that things in Iraq were getting better.

She thought for a minute and then said that she had been to Iraq three times. The first time she flew into Baghdad airport and then they drove in the six miles from the airport to the "green zone," the secured, walled-in portion of downtown Baghdad. This is the most secure location in all of Iraq and they drove there in heavily armored transports.

A year later when she visited, they once again flew into Baghdad airport, but this time they were placed into helicopters and flown from the airport to the green zone. It was no longer safe to drive the six miles from the airport to the green zone no matter how heavily armored was your transportation.

The last time she was in Baghdad, earlier this year, they once again flew into Baghdad airport, and used helicopters to reach the green zone. But this time, once in the green zone, they had to wear flak jackets and helmets at all times and were told to only go outside if they needed to move from one location to another. This in the most secure location in all of Iraq.

Does this sound like the surge is working to you?

That is the dumbest reasoning I've ever heard. You point to the fact that security is heavier in Baghdad as a sign that the surge has not worked.

First of all, the surge began AFTER Loretta's last visit, deeming her observation worthless in an assessment of said surge.

Second, the fact that they have increased security speaks more of the fact that our commanders are learning from their mistakes than anything else.

You, along with Loretta, are unpatriotic and unreasonable in your blind attacks of the administration and the troops. It is ok to disagree with the war, it is NOT ok to spread propaganda for our enemies.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

The inability to secure even the green zone is the point you buffoon. The fact that everyone in the "green zone" has to hide and wear armor all the time now is being reported everywhere, except on Fox (we ain't really the) News, as the absolute inability of the US military to secure anything in Iraq. But please, go on believeing that black is white, be my guest to completely miss the point.

You must be one of those "the insurgency is in its final throes" kinda people, who can look at black and say it's white and doesn't have the conscience enough to admit it. Like Cheney you also like to call anyone who disagrees with you unpatriotic, don't ya? But since “Dissent is the highest form of patriotism” I disagree with you 100%

And Buckwheat, who attacked the troops? Not me, not Loretta. They can get away with that lying shit on Fox, but not here bub.

And finally, as for shame, big words from one who hides their identity behind anonymous posting. What a brave fucking soul you are.
