Words To Regret II

As I mentioned before, a few months ago my friend and Pop Thought imagineer, Alex Ness, asked me if I would like to illustrate one of the short horror stories he was working on. I agreed and am getting closer to finishing my four pages, the first real comic work I have done in a very long time. The above is a nearly complete panel from the third page of Words to Regret.

This looks great, Barry!

Thanks Dave. I think if I put some effort into this I might be able to do it well. I'm having fun with a brush for the first time in years.

What did you use for the dotted shading? Something like Zip-a-tone or Craftint? (I don't know if either of those products are still made.)

I used Maxon Comic Patterns shading sheets on the first Words To Regret sample, which are like zip-a-tone used to be except the backing is lightly waxed rather than adhesive. When I actually finish this panel I will use the same, but what you see here is a shade screen made in Photoshop and then cloned in in Corel Painter.

I haven't ruled in the panel borders yet for this page and so I am not laying down anything waxy until I do. This is why I faked the tone (and border) to show the panel now.
